GMB star Andi Peters in Hexham

Good Morning Britain visit the country's happiest town

Andi Peters, star of breakfast show Good Morning Britain, was saying good morning from Hexham this week.

The former children’s TV presenter and his crew stayed at the Beaumont Hotel and filmed from there for the show in the morning as part of the “Banish the January Blues’ feature.

Local independent shop and business owners were interviewed and had the chance to say what a great town Hexham is. Hexham has been voted one of the ‘best’ places to live and one of the ‘happiest’ place to live in polls carried out in the last few years.

Hexham has seen several new businesses open in recent months including Snap! – a vinyl record shop, Obscuria (homeware, gifts and pottery studio) on Market Street, Elev8 Records UK on St Mary’s Chare, French & Wilder (French interiors and in-house designs), Bureau of Dreams (art gallery) on St Mary’s Chare and the Northumberland Antique Centre on Hallstile Bank. It looks like Hexham is bucking the trend and its town centre is thriving.
